Spring... Trees are reviving; the sun is becoming particularly caressing although sometimes the nature gives surprises connected with sharp changes in the weather.

In Central Asia, this time is closely connected with Nauruz celebrations, with its beautiful rites and pleasant cares. We have described in detail development of traditions of Nauruz celebrations (¹ 1, 2003). One more holiday, particularly loved by women - 8 March Day –is celebrated in spring. Women in Uzbekistan are lavished with care and special attention. The establishment of the Uzbekistan Women’s Committee by the Republican Government aiming to render support to women and assist in the development of their intellectual and cultural capacity, testifies for that.

We dedicate this number of the magazine to women. Authors of many materials are women like their heroines in the majority of the articles. This number of the magazine is for them and about them – intelligent, beautiful and talented.
